This means the complete game is not stored on the card itself. When the card is first inserted into your Nintendo Switch 2, an internet connection is required to download the game. Nintendo's UK digital listing currently specifies a 91.8GB game download, although additional free space may be required for installation or updates.

After the initial download, the Game-Key Card must remain inserted when launching the game. Nintendo states that an internet connection is not normally required simply to launch a downloaded Game-Key Card title after the initial setup.

A microSD Express card may therefore be useful for customers with limited free internal Switch 2 storage.

Limited Physical Edition Bonus

Early production copies of the physical Nintendo Switch 2 version may include an exclusive Magic: The Gathering – FINAL FANTASY “Zack Fair” promotional card featuring variant artwork by Tetsuya Nomura.
