DEWALT/Screwfix positions the design as approximately 19% shorter than the DCD778, making it particularly useful inside cupboards, between joists, around pipework and in other restricted spaces.

A two-speed all-metal gearbox provides a low range of 0–450rpm for controlled screwdriving and higher-torque applications, plus a faster 0–1,650rpm range for drilling. Hammer action reaches up to 28,050 impacts per minute, allowing the DCD789 to tackle appropriate masonry applications as well as wood and metal drilling.

The drill provides 15 adjustable torque settings, plus dedicated drill and hammer-drill modes, helping users tailor the output to different screw sizes, materials and applications. A 13mm keyless chuck provides compatibility with a wide range of drilling and driving accessories without requiring a separate chuck key.
