Panasonic designed the original G9 as its high-end still-photography Lumix G model, pairing a 20.3MP sensor without an optical low-pass filter with the Venus Engine for high detail, strong colour reproduction and fast processing.

Its standout feature for action photography is speed. The electronic shutter can capture at up to 20 frames per second with continuous autofocus, rising to an exceptional 60fps with focus locked. Mechanical-shutter shooting reaches up to 12fps with AFS/MF or 9fps with continuous AF.

A sophisticated 5-axis sensor-shift stabilisation system provides up to 6.5 stops of compensation, while compatible optically stabilised Lumix lenses can work together with the body through Dual I.S. 2. This is particularly useful when shooting wildlife with long focal lengths or working handheld in lower light.

For subjects where maximum detail matters, the G9's High Resolution Mode shifts the sensor between eight exposures and combines them into an image equivalent to approximately 80 megapixels, available as JPEG or RAW.
