Overview

Escape a disturbingly cheerful dystopia in We Happy Few for PlayStation 4, the story-driven survival adventure from Compulsion Games. Set in an alternative version of 1960s England, the game takes you to Wellington Wells — a seemingly idyllic town whose citizens suppress the horrors of their past with a government-controlled hallucinogenic drug known as Joy.

Everything appears colourful, polite and relentlessly happy on the surface. Stop taking your Joy, however, and the illusion begins to collapse. Citizens become suspicious, uncomfortable truths emerge and simply behaving differently from everyone around you can make you a target. Survival therefore depends on knowing when to blend in, sneak away, talk your way through trouble or fight back.

The story unfolds through three interconnected playable characters — Arthur Hastings, Sally Boyle and Ollie Starkey. Each experiences Wellington Wells from a different perspective and brings distinct strengths, weaknesses, memories and gameplay possibilities to the wider mystery.

Explore districts filled with unusual characters and quests, scavenge useful materials, craft weapons and tools, manage survival needs and learn the social rules required to avoid suspicion. Wellington Wells also incorporates procedurally generated elements, meaning its layout and moment-to-moment exploration can differ between playthroughs.

The PS4 version is a single-player experience with no online multiplayer, supports DUALSHOCK 4 vibration and Remote Play, and can also be played on a compatible PlayStation 5 through backwards compatibility.
